Owing to the extreme weather Britian has endured in recent years, winter tyres have become an essential part of the motoring scene.
It is a common misconception that winter tyres are for use in snow only. The are actually designed with all low temperatures in mind. Below 7*C, the rubber compound in regular tyres harden, resulting in less grip. The compound of winter tyres contains more natural rubber and advanced silica formula to reduce this hardening effect.
This does mean however that winter tyres are less adept at dealing with temperatures above 7*C and therefore, are not suitable for use all year round and should be swapped back around March when temperatures start to climb.
